Do you or your high schooler dream of becoming the next great novelist?

Our comprehensive fiction writing curriculum will take them from idea to published author in just one school year!

What is it?

Over 36 jam-packed weeks, students will plan, draft, revise, edit, and publish their very own novel, all under the guidance of our experienced writing instructors who bring real-world expertise to every lesson.

In-person classes allow for interactive workshops, personalized tutoring, and feedback as students master planning, drafting, revising, editing, and polishing a manuscript. Lessons cover character development, plotting, settings, dialogue, overcoming writer’s block, and refining technique.

The year culminates in self-publishing a polished book on Amazon, complete with cover design and author bio. The final class is a read-aloud book signing where students can showcase their published work to family and friends!

If you want to nurture your child’s passion for storytelling and set them on the path to becoming a successful author, our fiction writing curriculum delivers the skills and support they need from experienced teachers. Enroll today and let their talent shine!

Who are we?

We are mother/daughter writing team, Erin Walton and Lauryn Gindl.

Erin is a veteran homeschool mom with three graduated adult kids. Two of her kids have published books using the tips students will gain in this course. Erin has professional experience in publishing, ghost-writing, lifestyle- and research-type articles, book coaching, developmental editing, teaching in a classroom, and homeschool co-ops.

Lauryn Gindl is a best-selling, published author of two books, with a third ready for the next round of edits and a fourth in its first draft! She has landed a contract with a publisher for all of her already-written books and future books to come. With experience in writing both fiction and non-fiction, blogs, and research-style articles, she understands the techniques involved in several styles of writing, and always enjoys learning more!

Frequently Asked Questions

The writing done in this course will pull together the basics students will have learned in previous writing, grammar, and literature courses. We recommend students have a robust understanding of these subjects to get the most out of the exercises in the Abiding Hedera Writing Program.

We will meet live online using Zoom. We do encourage students who are local to each other to form local writing groups, and we will be forming a group chat to ask questions and exchange advice outside of class time.

Our class will meet live online Tuesdays at noon Central for 45 minutes to an hour. Part of that 45 minutes to an hour will be work time and students will be encouraged to bring up areas they’re stuck in and bounce ideas off each other. This is an atmosphere and dynamic you won’t find outside of class, so we strongly encourage students to attend live to get the best experience. That said, classes will be recorded and available for replay as needed.

This is a complicated question to answer, as each week will vary in homework requirements. Some weeks will be more contemplative, others will be focused on honing and directing the student’s imagination toward a specific end, and some weeks will be focused on getting-words-on-paper writing.

The third month of the curriculum will be dedicated to writing a total of 50,000 words, amounting to approximately 1667 words/day. We understand the idea is likely daunting, but it is possible, and it is why we will be focused heavily on building the community of our students – that support group will be invaluable.

Keeping active in the group chat will also be a required part of homework.

Due to the goals of this class, we are looking for students who are generally interested in creative writing and looking for an outlet that allows them to take their writing to the next level.

Due to the nature of the homework and classwork, this class will work best for students who are self-starters, responsible, and able to give feedback to other classmates as well as receive it.

This class has two possible semesters.

  • The first semester will result in the skills and opportunity to write a novel manuscript.
  • If students choose to continue to the second semester, they will gain the experience of editing and producing a book for self-publishing on Amazon. This semester could end with your student holding a printed copy of their very own book.

We are not currently accepting signups for the second semester from students who have not joined us for the first. The teamwork and class interaction built in the first semester will also be called upon in the second.

Your student should be able to manage the coursework, expectations, and interactions on their own. You are welcome to listen in, however, students who are self-starters and able to responsibly manage their own time will get the most out of this course.

During this first year, we are running a special for 50% off. This reduced rate will amount to $175 for the first semester and $212 for the second.

Yes, family discounts available. Check the next tab to find out how!

We know that word of mouth is a powerful thing among homeschool families, so we do, in fact, offer payment for referrals. For this first year, the first semester of class will be $175, and you can receive $75 per referral.
